Athlete availability

The availability status tells you whether you can count on an athlete. You see it in the "Status" column of Athletes, on the athlete's profile and in each match call-up.

The statuses

  • "Available": no open injury that limits them, no school unavailability and no other status chosen when closing the last injury (an open injury can also be set to "Available"). Any new enrolment without restrictions starts here.
  • "Restricted": the athlete has an open injury that limits them, or you closed their last injury with this status.
  • "Unavailable": the athlete cannot play, because of an injury marked "Unavailable" (open, or the last one you closed with this status) or a school unavailability.
  • "Archived": the athlete has left that team. This is the only status that belongs to each enrolment; the other three belong to the athlete.

Where the status comes from

You do not pick the status on the enrolment: Cantera works it out from two sources and recalculates it whenever either of them changes.

  1. Injuries, in the "Clinical" tab of the athlete's profile. When you record an injury with "Add injury", you choose the "Athlete status". While the injury is open, the athlete keeps that status; you can change it on the injury's page.
  2. School unavailability, in the "School" tab. "Mark unavailable" suspends the athlete from the "Season" you choose, with an optional "Reason". Only seasons in which the athlete is in a squad are offered. "Lift unavailability" removes it.

When there is more than one cause, the most restrictive one wins: "Unavailable" beats "Restricted", and "Restricted" beats "Available".

Closing and reopening an injury

  1. On the injury's page, click "Close injury".
  2. Choose the "Athlete status" they are left with and the "Recovery date".
  3. Click "Close injury".

If the athlete has another open injury, the status comes from the injuries still open, and the one you chose when closing does not count. "Reopen injury" sets the injury back to "Unavailable"; you can ease the status afterwards on the injury's page.

What changes in the call-up

  • In the match call-up, the "Status" column shows each athlete's availability. Cantera does not stop you calling up a "Restricted" or "Unavailable" athlete: the decision is yours.
  • In Coach Mode, "Call up everyone" only calls up "Available" athletes. Restricted, unavailable and guest athletes are left as they were.
  • An athlete whose enrolment in that team is archived no longer appears in the call-up squad. If they were already on a saved call-up, they keep their place, as a guest, until you remove them.
