Building the team's annual plan: periods, mesocycles, contents and microcycles

Updated on 26 October 2026

On this page · 7 sections

The annual plan organises the team's season week by week. Each calendar week is a microcycle; above it sit the periods and mesocycles, and below it the contents you work on each week. Training sessions belong to the microcycle of the week they fall in.

Before you start

The weeks come from the team's dates in that season, the "Season period". Without them, the plan says "There are no weeks in this season yet — set the start and end dates."

Opening the plan

  1. In Teams, open the team and go to the "Planning" tab. Here the plan is read-only: select a week to see its microcycle. On a tablet or a phone the board slides sideways.
  2. To edit, select "Annual Plan".

Periods and mesocycles

  1. Select the + on the "Period" or "Mesocycle" row and drag from the first week to the last.
  2. Select a band to change the period's type, under "Change type" ("Preparatory", "Competitive" or "Transition"), or to "Remove" it.
  3. Drag the ends of a band to shorten or lengthen it.

Bands on the same row never overlap.

Break weeks

Select a week on the "Week" row to mark it as a "Break": it no longer has a microcycle and the microcycle numbering skips it. Select it again to bring it back.

Contents

  1. Select "Add group", then "Add row" for each content in the group.
  2. Under "Marking", choose for the whole plan "Simple" (marked or not) or "Levels".
  3. Select a row's cell in the week's column: with "Simple" it marks or unmarks; with "Levels" each click goes up one level ("Low", "Medium", "High") and after "High" it goes back to empty.

"Remove group" removes the group and all its rows.

The week's plan and each session's objectives

Below the grid is the microcycle of the chosen week, with "This week's sessions" and "This week's contents". Choose a training session and write the "General objectives" and "Specific objectives"; select "Save". On the team's "Planning" tab, objectives are edited under "Edit objectives".

Printing

  • "Print Plan" prints the grid for the whole season.
  • "Print Microcycle" asks for the "Microcycle" and prints that week's plan with each session's objectives. Break weeks are not on the list.
